In Bangladesh:

The optimum dietary protein requirement of a Thai strain of climbing perch (Anabas testudineus, Bloch, 1792) fry was investigated by feeding six semi-purified diets containing varying levels of dietary protein within a range of 25-50% over an 8 week feeding period. Statistical analysis of growth data showed that the weight gain and specific growth rate (SGR) of fish in all dietary groups increased proportionally with the increase in dietary protein concentration to level of 40% and thereafter decreased with further increase in dietary protein levels. On the basis of observed weight gain, SGR and FCR, a diet containing 40% protein with a protein to energy (PE) ratio of 92.63 (mg protein/Kcal gross energy) is recommended for maximum growth of (A. testudineus) under experimental condition used in this study.

In Japan:

An inter-male competition for resource was compared between the reproductive and non-reproductive seasons in a mud crab under two natural and three experimental observations. In natural conditions, two factors: body size difference and residency, contributed equally to the fight outcomes in both seasons. In experiments during the reproductive season, (1) we created motivated intruders by capturing resident males and placing them in the burrows of other residents to induce a fight. (2) We repeated this but first placed a female in the burrow before introducing the intruder; findings for both experiments were similar to those for natural fights. (3) During non-reproductive season, we repeated the first experiment and found a different result: fight outcome was determined by the difference in body size, not residency. This is the first study to show that differing subjective value of a resource between the reproductive and non-reproductive seasons affects fight outcomes.
